The Tsar’s Bride

The Bolshoi Theatre’s first official tour in the UAE.The Tsars bride opera is to perform in Dubai Opera 2026

The Tsar’s Bride by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov is a story of great passion, dramatic tension, and bloody revenge, inspired by historical events from the reign of Ivan the Terrible. It is one of the iconic productions of the Bolshoi Theatre’s golden repertoire.

Lev Mey, the Russian dramatist and poet whose work inspired Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera, based The Tsar’s Bride on the true story of Marfa Sobakina, the third wife of Tsar Ivan the Terrible, who died just two weeks after their wedding. The opera, however, makes no claim to historical accuracy. Mey, and later Rimsky-Korsakov, created vivid characters caught in intensely dramatic circumstances, with their actions driven by the internal logic of the unfolding plot.

This production was the final work of the outstanding set designer Fyodor Fedorovsky. His monumental period sets became a classic example of the Bolshoi’s celebrated “grand style” and were recreated in 2014 under the supervision of Alyona Pikalova for the Bolshoi Theatre’s current production.

The Nutcracker

The Bolshoi Theatre’s First Official Tour in the UAE. The tour is co-presented by Dubai Opera and Art Seasons.

The Nutcracker by Pyotr Tchaikovsky — a ballet-féerie, as the composer himself described the genre, and a beloved Christmas tale of childhood, miracles, courage, and first love — will be performed by the Bolshoi Ballet, featuring its principal dancers and accompanied by the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra.

By transforming The Nutcracker into a philosophical meditation on the unattainability of ideal love, choreographer Yuri Grigorovich filled the ballet with a sense of romantic introspection, elevating what had once been seen as a simple children’s matinee ballet into a 20th-century classic.

Grigorovich created a continuous, fully danced coming-of-age narrative in which the characters’ confrontation with monsters is only the beginning of an exuberant journey to the top of a magnificent Christmas tree. His choreography gives the Bolshoi Ballet’s finest dancers an opportunity to showcase their artistry at its very best.
